SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 PLAYER PLUS
Like you said the controls are spot on even the special levels with the ball and such are fun - plus just platformers not really being my MO really made the super tight controls and advanced movement techniques (spin jumping, crouch leaping, 180-flicking backflip thingy) super satisfying to play. Hey I recently played both 1 and 2 and I couldn't agree more! These were my first Nintendo games I've played in years - I had forgotten what Mario was and how magical and inventive a deservedly classic franchise can be. If it was another mario galaxy people would have bitched about that too. Nothing vastly different about the two except odyssey is more of a 'collection' game so has more easier things to find. The "hard" parts of galaxy were because of questionable design choices on a few levels. The game isn't dark fucking souls for fucks sake. People bitching about how it was too easy. Even at 100hrs I was still finding little easter eggs or spots I'd never seen before. I still spent over 100hrs in it, maybe even 200. If the game has a mass cooking option it would have probably saved me 10 hours by itself. The main mechanic that really got on my nerves was the cooking 1 thing at a damned time. I do wish there were more enemy types (at locations) just to make things a little more interesting because the world did feel more than a bit empty (but at the same time it was supposed to be a ravaged world with less life so it can make sense too) It made me pick and choose my fights, but I can understand if anyone would have wanted to be able to tune it a bit like 2-5x more duarability or something. I learned to live with the weapon durability. Of course those people will swear up and down they wouldn't say that, but we see it all the time with any game that doesn't "shake up the formula". If they would have had more 'zelda type" mechanics people would have bitched about how "same ole same ole" it was. It essentially boils down to saying that niche games can't be good because they aren't for everyone, but if all games are generalized people will complain about that instead. So that was my experience playing the game for the first time, what did you guys think of it?
SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 PLAYER 480P
The game hasn't aged one bit, i played it for the first time 13 years after release but other than the 480p resolution of the wii, it looked fantastic and a rerelease in 1080p wouldn't look out of place today. It never got stale, the pacing at which new power ups and mechanics were introduced was perfect, never too overwhelming but too sparce as to keep the game fresh. The amount of challenge was perfect, even the hardest levels became easy once you understood what you were supposed to do. The gameplay itself is absolutely perfect, there was not a single time i was annoyed at the wii waggle controls, in fact, they enhanced the experience greatly (yes, even the ball and mantaray minigames), i don't think i would've enjoyed this game as much if i played it with a regular control. The story is minimum (it's a mario game after all) but satisfying enough with the added flavor of rosalina's backstory unlocking as you progress. The critics weren't wrong about this one, it's literally a perfect game. I've been continuing with my journey on catching up on wii games i missed (since i only ever had a ps3) and saw that Mario Galaxy was literally one of the highest rated games of all time so i decided to give it a go.
